Three steps to get started

Connect Google Sheets to Sequel

In your Sequel dashboard, go to Connections and add Google Sheets. Sequel handles authentication and schema discovery automatically.

Add the MCP config

Copy the Sequel MCP configuration into Claude's settings file (shown below). Swap in your API key from Settings → API Keys.

Ask Claude about your data

Restart Claude and start asking questions. "What sheets are in this spreadsheet?" — and get a real answer backed by live Google Sheets data.

Place this in ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json and replace sql_your_api_key with a key from Settings → API Keys.

How do I connect Google Sheets to Claude?

You need two things: (1) connect Google Sheets to Sequel in your Sequel dashboard under Connections, and (2) add the Sequel MCP config to Claude using the setup shown above. Once both are done, Claude can query your Google Sheets data directly.

What Google Sheets data can Claude access?

Claude can access any data available through your Google Sheets connection in Sequel. Use Sequel's search tool to discover available metrics and dimensions, then execute queries to pull the data you need.

Is my Google Sheets data sent to Claude's servers?

Query results are returned to Claude as context within your conversation. Only the data you explicitly ask about is retrieved. Sequel never stores your query results permanently — they exist only for the duration of the tool call.

Do I need a Sequel account?

Yes. You need a Sequel account to connect Google Sheets and generate an API key. Sign up free at sequel.sh — no credit card required. Then create a connection to Google Sheets and generate an API key from Settings → API Keys.

Can I connect multiple Google Sheets accounts?

Yes. Sequel supports multiple connections of the same type. If you have multiple Google Sheets accounts or properties, add each as a separate connection in Sequel. Claude will be able to query all of them.
