Frequently asked questions

Does this work with Claude Desktop and Claude.ai?

The JSON config above works with Claude Desktop (Mac and Windows). Claude.ai supports MCP through Workspaces — go to Settings → Integrations to add the Sequel MCP URL there.

What databases can Claude query through Sequel?

Any database or analytics tool you've connected in Sequel: PostgreSQL, MySQL, ClickHouse, BigQuery, Snowflake, Google Analytics, and more. Claude can only access connections your organization has set up.

Is my database data sent to Anthropic?

Query results are passed to Claude as context within your conversation. Anthropic's standard data handling policies apply. Sequel never stores your query results permanently — they exist only for the duration of the tool call.

Can I limit which connections Claude can see?

Sequel MCP is scoped to your organization's connections. You can create separate API keys for different use cases and revoke them at any time from Settings → API Keys.

Does it work with Claude Code (the CLI)?

Yes. Run: claude mcp add --scope user --transport http sequel https://api.sequel.sh/mcp --header 'Authorization: Bearer sql_your_api_key'. The --scope user flag makes Sequel available in every Claude Code session on your machine.
