Launching Sequel, a new language for your database

We're finally launching Sequel! After months of talking to our early users and after numerous iterations, it's finally time for everyone to use Sequel.

Unlike our traditional database and dashboarding tools, Sequel is built different by having only one goal in mind: "Make data accessible for everyone!"

Why we built Sequel

I have spent countless hours writing SQL queries, visualising and trying to understand the data. Having access to useful insights was always a barrier to our team if they weren't technical. A lot of these useful insights would be under specific SaaS they use or deep within dashboarding tools like metabase or retool.

This needs to be changed! With Sequel we are aiming to help you and your team to get reports, insights and ultimately answers faster than ever, just by talking to your database.

A Language for your database: English!

Traditionally SQL was always been the language to interact with data. It isn't a language familiar for everyone in your team. Building a tool that changes how we interact with data has to be universal, it shouldn't be a language for machines, but a language for Humans.

With recent developments in AI, it has never been easier to bridge the gap between Data and Humans. Sequel utilizes some of the well known techniques to use AI to help you interact with your data and let the data do the talking.

What is Sequel?

Sequel is a new generation of tool to help you work with data. From getting insights, to querying your database with SQL, Sequel supports it all. We have designed Sequel with having your team in mind: a team of technical and non-technical contributors. People who knows SQL will feel right at home, and folks who don't will get a super power to use English to query the database.

A copilot for your data exploration

Sequel is not just a querying tool, with deep integration with AI, any question you ask will be answered with clarity and detail. If you are looking for specific data, our AI will help you analyse, look for patterns and nudge you on insights you would usually miss while looking at plain tables.

Not just words, Sequel can also quickly visualise your data and show you helpful insights without any effort, all you need to do is just ask :)

We are excited to see how you are planning to use Sequel. From today, Sequel is open for everyone to try it out for free! If you are a team looking to make data and insights accessible, without sacrificing engineering efforts, talk to us to setup Sequel for your team.

Frequently asked questions

What problem was Sequel built to solve?

Sequel was built to remove the technical barrier between teams and their data. The founders found that useful insights were locked inside databases and dashboarding tools like Metabase or Retool, and non-technical team members had no way to access them independently without waiting on engineers.

Do you need to know SQL to use Sequel?

No. Sequel is designed so that people who don't know SQL can use plain English to query their database. For those who do know SQL, Sequel also supports writing queries directly, so both technical and non-technical users are accommodated.

Is Sequel just a querying tool, or does it do more?

Sequel goes beyond querying - it analyzes data, looks for patterns, surfaces insights you might otherwise miss, and automatically visualizes results. It acts as a copilot for data exploration rather than just a SQL interface.

What databases does Sequel support?

The launch announcement doesn't enumerate a specific list, but Sequel supports connecting to your existing database. Later articles confirm support for PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, ClickHouse, TursoDB, Cloudflare D1, and DuckDB, with BigQuery, Snowflake, and Redshift planned.

Is Sequel free to try?

Yes, as of launch Sequel is open for everyone to try for free. Teams looking to deploy Sequel more broadly can also contact the team directly to discuss setup options.

How is Sequel different from traditional dashboarding tools like Metabase or Retool?

Traditional dashboarding tools require technical setup, pre-configured dashboards, and often SQL knowledge to get value. Sequel replaces that workflow with a conversational interface where anyone can ask questions in plain English and get instant answers with visualizations, without configuring anything in advance.
