Introducing team workspaces for Everyone on Sequel 🚀

Collaboration just got a major upgrade

Until now, shared workspaces were exclusive to our enterprise users—but that’s changing. Starting today, Pro plan users can invite their teammates to join their Sequel workspace, unlocking powerful team collaboration features that were previously gated.

Why This Matters

Modern teams run on data. But when every team member is working in silos, you lose the shared context that makes data truly actionable. With Team Workspaces, your team can finally operate from a central source of truth—with shared instructions, internal documentation, and consistent querying standards, all baked directly into Sequel.

Whether you're a product manager tracking activation metrics, a finance analyst monitoring burn, or a founder keeping an eye on growth funnels—everyone on your team can now query data the same way, with the same understanding of what matters.

Here’s What You Can Do with Team Workspaces

Invite Your Team

Pro users can now invite teammates to their workspace directly from the dashboard. Collaborate and reduce redundant corrections or conflicting metrics.

Shared Instructions & Internal Knowledge

Within each connected database, you can now define custom instructions—these act like a knowledge base for Sequel's AI. Think of it as documentation for your data:

  • Define key metrics like “activation rate” or “MRR”
  • Explain internal processes or business logic
  • List out abbreviations, column meanings, or reporting standards

This helps Sequel understand your business context and produce smarter, more relevant answers across the team.

Smarter AI, Unified Understanding

Sequel’s AI is now even better when it has shared context. The more your team documents, the more intelligent your queries become—leading to faster insights and fewer misinterpretations.

How to Get Started

If you're on the Pro plan:

  1. Go to your Workspace Settings
  2. Click "Add Member"
  3. Start adding team members by email

Inviting users to Sequel

From there, head to your Connected Database Settings and start filling out custom instructions to bring your team’s internal knowledge into Sequel.

Frequently asked questions

Which Sequel plan is required to access Team Workspaces?

Team Workspaces are available on the Pro plan, which costs $19 per user per month. Previously this feature was exclusive to enterprise users, but it has now been opened to Pro plan subscribers.

What are custom instructions in Sequel and how do they improve query results?

Custom instructions are a knowledge base you define within each connected database in Sequel. You can document key metrics definitions (like how "activation rate" is calculated), internal business logic, column meanings, abbreviations, and reporting standards. Sequel's AI uses this context to generate smarter, more relevant answers that align with your team's specific terminology.

How do you invite a teammate to a Sequel workspace?

From your Workspace Settings, click "Add Member" and enter team members by their email address. Once added, they share access to the workspace, connected databases, and any custom instructions that have been defined.

What problem does the Team Workspaces feature solve for data-driven teams?

Without shared workspaces, team members work in silos with no shared context - leading to inconsistent metrics, redundant corrections, and conflicting answers from the AI. Team Workspaces establish a central source of truth with shared instructions and unified querying standards so everyone on the team operates from the same understanding.

Can different team members have different levels of access in Sequel?

The announcement focuses on collaborative access rather than role-based permissions. Members invited to a workspace share access to connected databases and custom instructions. For granular permission controls, reaching out to the Sequel team directly is recommended.

What types of content should teams document in Sequel's custom instructions?

Teams should document key metric definitions (MRR, activation rate, churn), internal process descriptions, abbreviations and acronyms specific to the business, column name explanations, and reporting standards. The more thorough the documentation, the more accurate and consistent Sequel's AI responses become across all team members.
