How to Connect MCP Server to dots
Query your MCP Server data directly from dots using Sequel’s MCP server. Ask questions in plain English, with no SQL, no dashboards, and no context switching.
Short answer
Connect MCP Server to Sequel, then add Sequel's MCP server to dots using the config on this page. dots can then query your live MCP Server data in plain English, with no connector code and no CSV exports. Both steps take a few minutes.
Everything you can ask dots about your MCP Server data.
Ask in plain English — Sequel translates it into a MCP Server query, runs it, and dots hands back the answer. No SQL, no dashboards, no CSV exports.

- Run the search tool and find recent news about AI
- Combine results from two different tools into a single answer

How it works
Three steps to get started
Connect MCP Server to Sequel
In your Sequel dashboard, go to Connections and add MCP Server. Sequel handles authentication and schema discovery automatically.
Add Sequel to the agent
Follow the steps below to add Sequel to dots. It signs in with your Sequel account over OAuth, so there is no key to copy.
Ask dots about your data
Restart dots and start asking questions. "What tools does this MCP server provide?" — and get a real answer backed by live MCP Server data.
Why dots
What dots does with your MCP Server data
No separate setup for the dot
There is no "connect apps to your dot" step for custom connectors. Anything installed under Settings → Plugins, including a developer-mode MCP connector, is available to the dot from its first message, and the same plugin serves ChatGPT, Codex and your dots.
It keeps working after you leave
A dot runs on its own cloud computer and pursues goals in the background, so it can use Sequel inside a scheduled task: the Monday morning numbers, a daily spend-versus-revenue check, an alert when signups fall off their trend.
Read-only by default, on both sides
Sequel marks its tools read-only and shows each query before it runs. Set the Sequel plugin to "Allow read-only tools" and reads run freely while anything that changes something has to ask, so a dot acting on its own initiative cannot touch your data.
Configuration
Add Sequel to dots
Use it in ChatGPT → Settings → Connectors (developer mode). dots signs in with your Sequel account over OAuth, so there is no API key to paste.
ChatGPT → Settings → Connectors (developer mode)
Server URL: https://api.sequel.sh/mcp Authentication: OAuth, sign in with Sequel when ChatGPT asks Then: Settings → Plugins → Sequel → Allow read-only tools
Install
Install MCP Server MCP in dots
Pick your app and Sequel installs itself: a one-click link where the client supports it, that client’s own few steps where it doesn’t. Every route signs in with your Sequel account over OAuth, so there is no API key to copy and nothing to keep in sync.
Already have an MCP client?
https://api.sequel.sh/mcp
Add it as a remote (streamable HTTP) server and sign in when prompted. Skills come with it; nothing else to install. Manual setup per client
Add Sequel to dots
Server URL
https://api.sequel.sh/mcp
- 1In ChatGPT, open Settings and turn on Developer mode. It needs a paid plan, and in a workspace an admin may have to grant it.
- 2Add a connector, name it Sequel, paste the URL and leave authentication on OAuth. Sign in to Sequel in the window that opens.
- 3Under Settings → Plugins, set Sequel to “Allow read-only tools”.
- 4Your dot has it already. Ask it “which apps can you use right now?” to confirm.

Frequently asked questions
How do I connect MCP Server to dots?
You need two things: (1) connect MCP Server to Sequel in your Sequel dashboard under Connections, and (2) add the Sequel MCP config to dots using the setup shown above. Once both are done, dots can query your MCP Server data directly.
What MCP Server data can dots access?
dots can access any data available through your MCP Server connection in Sequel. Use Sequel's search tool to discover available metrics and dimensions, then execute queries to pull the data you need.
Is my MCP Server data sent to dots's servers?
Query results are returned to dots as context within your conversation. Only the data you explicitly ask about is retrieved. Sequel never stores your query results permanently — they exist only for the duration of the tool call.
Do I need a Sequel account?
Yes. You need a Sequel account to connect MCP Server and generate an API key. Sign up free at sequel.sh — no credit card required. Then create a connection to MCP Server and generate an API key from Settings → API Keys.
Can I connect multiple MCP Server accounts?
Yes. Sequel supports multiple connections of the same type. If you have multiple MCP Server accounts or properties, add each as a separate connection in Sequel. dots will be able to query all of them.
Can an OpenAI dot use a custom MCP server?
Yes. A connector added through developer mode in ChatGPT is available to your dot with no extra step, because a dot has access to the plugins installed on your ChatGPT account. The same connector works in a normal chat, in Codex, and inside the dot's scheduled tasks.
How do I add Sequel to my dot?
In ChatGPT, turn on developer mode in Settings, add a new connector named Sequel with the URL https://api.sequel.sh/mcp, choose OAuth, and sign in to Sequel in the window that opens. Then ask your dot "which apps can you use right now?" Sequel should be one of them.
What do I need to use dots with Sequel?
A dot (included with ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium in eligible markets), developer mode for custom connectors, which is paid-plan only and may need a workspace admin's permission, and a Sequel account with at least one source connected.
Which permission level should I give the Sequel plugin?
"Allow read-only tools" is the right default: Sequel flags each tool, so reads run without interruption while anything that changes something asks first. Note that an explicit request in the conversation counts as your approval, so the level protects you from the dot acting unprompted only.
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI agents to external tools and data sources. Any server that implements the MCP protocol can be connected to Sequel.
How do I connect an MCP server?
Click 'New Connection', select MCP Server, give it a name, and enter the server's HTTP URL. Optionally add any required HTTP headers (like an API key). Sequel will connect and discover available tools automatically.
What types of MCP servers are supported?
Sequel supports HTTP-based MCP servers using the StreamableHTTP transport. This covers the vast majority of publicly deployed MCP servers.
Do I need to configure each tool manually?
No. Sequel auto-discovers all tools by reading the server's manifest. It uses tool names and descriptions to understand what each tool does and when to call it.
