How to Connect Mixpanel to Grok Bot

Query your Mixpanel data directly from Grok Bot using Sequel’s MCP server. Ask questions in plain English, with no SQL, no dashboards, and no context switching.

Short answer

Connect Mixpanel to Sequel, then add Sequel's MCP server to Grok Bot using the config on this page. Grok Bot can then query your live Mixpanel data in plain English, with no connector code and no CSV exports. Both steps take a few minutes.

Example prompts

Everything you can ask Grok Bot about your Mixpanel data.

Ask in plain English — Sequel translates it into a Mixpanel query, runs it, and Grok Bot hands back the answer. No SQL, no dashboards, no CSV exports.

What you can ask Grok Bot
  • How many users completed 'Subscription Started' last week, by plan?
  • Show me the signup → activation funnel conversion for the past 30 days.
  • Compare DAU for iOS vs Android over the last 60 days.
  • What's the average value of 'Order Placed' broken down by country?
  • Which step in funnel 4321 has the biggest drop-off?

How it works

Three steps to get started

1

Connect Mixpanel to Sequel

In your Sequel dashboard, go to Connections and add Mixpanel. Sequel handles authentication and schema discovery automatically.

2

Add Sequel to the agent

Follow the steps below to add Sequel to Grok Bot. It signs in with your Sequel account over OAuth, so there is no key to copy.

3

Ask Grok Bot about your data

Restart Grok Bot and start asking questions. "How many users completed 'Subscription Started' last week, by plan?" — and get a real answer backed by live Mixpanel data.

Why Grok Bot

What Grok Bot does with your Mixpanel data

Set up in one message

There is no config file to edit and no settings form to fill in. Say "add a custom MCP server called sequel at https://api.sequel.sh/mcp", confirm the details the bot reads back, and it registers the server on your account.

OAuth, so no key to paste

Sequel is a remote MCP server with OAuth. The bot posts a connect card in the chat, you authorize in the browser, and the token stays on the connector side. Your database credentials never leave Sequel.

Account-wide, and it works unattended

A server you add is available to every bot on your account, so you do not repeat the setup. Scheduled and background runs can use it too, which is what makes a daily metrics digest possible.

Configuration

Add Sequel to Grok Bot

Use it in Grok Bot → chat (then Settings → Plugins → Yours). Grok Bot signs in with your Sequel account over OAuth, so there is no API key to paste.

Grok Bot → chat (then Settings → Plugins → Yours)

Add a custom MCP server called sequel at https://api.sequel.sh/mcp

Then: confirm the name and URL when the bot asks, click Authorize on the
connect card, and sign in to Sequel. Attach it in a chat with @sequel.

Install

Install Mixpanel MCP in Grok Bot

Pick your app and Sequel installs itself: a one-click link where the client supports it, that client’s own few steps where it doesn’t. Every route signs in with your Sequel account over OAuth, so there is no API key to copy and nothing to keep in sync.

Already have an MCP client?

https://api.sequel.sh/mcp

Add it as a remote (streamable HTTP) server and sign in when prompted. Skills come with it; nothing else to install. Manual setup per client

Add Sequel to Grok Bot

Send to the bot

Add a custom MCP server called sequel at https://api.sequel.sh/mcp
  1. 1Paste the message above into a chat with your bot. Say “custom server”, otherwise it searches the plugin marketplace instead.
  2. 2The bot reads the name and URL back. Check them, then click Add it.
  3. 3Click Authorize on the connect card and sign in to Sequel.
  4. 4Type @ in the chat, attach sequel, and ask a question that needs your data.

Frequently asked questions

How do I connect Mixpanel to Grok Bot?

You need two things: (1) connect Mixpanel to Sequel in your Sequel dashboard under Connections, and (2) add the Sequel MCP config to Grok Bot using the setup shown above. Once both are done, Grok Bot can query your Mixpanel data directly.

What Mixpanel data can Grok Bot access?

Grok Bot can access any data available through your Mixpanel connection in Sequel. Use Sequel's search tool to discover available metrics and dimensions, then execute queries to pull the data you need.

Is my Mixpanel data sent to Grok Bot's servers?

Query results are returned to Grok Bot as context within your conversation. Only the data you explicitly ask about is retrieved. Sequel never stores your query results permanently — they exist only for the duration of the tool call.

Do I need a Sequel account?

Yes. You need a Sequel account to connect Mixpanel and generate an API key. Sign up free at sequel.sh — no credit card required. Then create a connection to Mixpanel and generate an API key from Settings → API Keys.

Can I connect multiple Mixpanel accounts?

Yes. Sequel supports multiple connections of the same type. If you have multiple Mixpanel accounts or properties, add each as a separate connection in Sequel. Grok Bot will be able to query all of them.

How do I add Sequel to Grok Bot?

Ask the bot. Send "add a custom MCP server called sequel at https://api.sequel.sh/mcp", confirm the name and URL it reads back, then click Authorize on the connect card and sign in to Sequel. Say "custom server" explicitly so the bot adds the endpoint rather than searching the plugin marketplace.

Where do I check that it was added?

Settings → Plugins → Yours lists every server on your account, including the ones you added by chat. Make sure the entry is enabled, then attach it to a task by typing @ in the chat and picking sequel.

Is this the same as Grok chat or Grok Build?

No, and the steps do not carry over. Grok chat (grok.com) adds connectors under Connectors → New Connector → Custom. Grok Build is the terminal coding agent and uses `grok mcp add`. Grok Bot is the bot builder, where you add servers by asking the bot.

Which data sources can the bot query through Sequel?

Any source you have connected in Sequel: PostgreSQL, MySQL, ClickHouse, BigQuery, Snowflake, Google Analytics, Search Console, Google Ads, Meta Ads, HubSpot, Stripe, and more. The bot can only reach the connections your organization has set up.

How do I connect Mixpanel to Sequel?

Create a Service Account in Mixpanel under Organization Settings → Service Accounts with at least project-level read access. Copy the username (looks like `my-sa.abc123.mp-service-account`) and the secret shown once at creation, then paste both into Sequel along with your numeric project ID and region.

Why a Service Account instead of an OAuth login?

Service Accounts are the long-lived, scope-limited credential Mixpanel recommends for programmatic access. They can be revoked or rotated independently of any user's login, and they don't break when a teammate leaves. Sequel uses HTTP Basic auth with the service account username and secret.

Which Mixpanel region should I pick?

Use the region your project was created in. US projects use mixpanel.com / data.mixpanel.com. EU projects use eu.mixpanel.com / data-eu.mixpanel.com. The region toggle simply chooses which API host Sequel calls — pick the wrong one and you'll see 401s or empty results.

Can Sequel modify data in Mixpanel?

No. The connector only ships read-only tools: segmentation, funnel report, list funnels, list events, list event properties, and raw event export. The agent has no write surface, so it cannot create reports, funnels, or cohorts.
