What is Chat2DB?
Chat2DB started as an internal Alibaba open-source project in 2023 and is now operated commercially by CodePhiliaX, based in Hangzhou, China. Where Chat2DB gets complicated
The commercial product is a different thing from the open-source codebase. The Pro tier requires cloud sync, which means query metadata and potentially schema information leave the machine and transit Chat2DB's infrastructure in China. For Western teams in regulated industries, EU teams under GDPR, or any organization with a "no third-country data transfer" policy, that is a compliance question that needs a real answer before deployment.
